But there are 3 general phases
We all know about the stereotypical image of a woman with her head in the freezer suffering from a hot flush! And hot flushes are one of the most common symptoms along with night sweats. But the symptoms can be different for everyone and can come on gradually. They can however be grouped into 3 phases:
1. Peri-menopause
You may begin to experience physical and emotional symptoms while you still have your period. You might notice heavier or lighter periods, irregular periods or even shorter or longer durations.
2. Menopause
Common symptoms can include hot flushes and night sweats, general aches and pains, dry skin, vaginal dryness, loss of libido, more frequent toilet stops and trouble sleeping. But don't worry! Just because you're going through menopause doesn't mean all of this will happen! And there are ways to help manage the symptoms.
3. Post-menopause
The symptoms will be milder and less frequent.
